Most people have walked along their local beaches, found an orange stone and wondered if it was Amber. Follow our quick and easy guide below, for a fun activity with your little ones, this Easter.

Things you will need:

  • A 1lb jam jar
  • Half a pint of water
  • 12 teaspoons of salt
  • A spoon ( to fish out your unwanted stones)

Put half a pint of clean water in to your jam jar and add 12 teaspoons of salt. Stir until FULLY dissolved. Place your lid on top and now you’re ready to go Amber hunting!

When you find a likely stone, pop it in to the solution and watch. If the stone floats or is suspended, it may very well be Amber. If the stone sinks quickly, it’s NOT Amber.

REMEMBER, if it sinks like a stone… IT IS!
