BIRTHSTONES

January= Garnet

Most commonly dark red-orange in colour. Coming in a range of colours including green, yellow, orange, pink and purple. Said to mean trust, strength and courage.

February= Amethyst

The colour Purple. From the Ancient Greek word “amethystos” (“not drunken”), many wearers believed that an amethyst would protect them for intoxication.

March= Aquamarine

The pale blue colour. Said to bring Tranquility, calmness and clarity to the wearer. Aquamarine stones were attributed to the god Neptune (even the name refers to the cerulean waves of seawater). Worn by sailors for protection.

April= Diamond

The hardest gemstone on the Mohs scale. Meaning Love, commitment, strength. In Latin, the word “diamond” translates to “unwavering,” . The Egyptians wore them as they believed, the Greeks believed they were God’s tears.

May= Emerald

Green in colour. Health, wealth, faithfulness. The Romans believed that, if gazed upon, they could restore sight.

June= Pearl and Moonstone

Purity, imagination, and innocence-Hope, calmness, and abundance

July= Ruby

A variety of red hues, from deep pink to a crimson colour. The symbolism of this gemstone has long been linked to passion, fortune and healing.

August= Peridot

Bright green. Sometimes refferred to as Olivine. Meaning Courage, wisdom, wealth. Romans appreciated its unchanging color– in both daylight or candlelight –and called it an “evening emerald.” 

September= Sapphire

Most commonly known for it’s vivid blue colour. Wisdom, loyalty, serenity. Linked to Royalty faith and abundance. Greek nobility associated this stone with Apollo.

October= Opal and Tourmaline

A soft delicate stone ranging in colour from a milky white to a fiery black. Some believe to be highly unlucky if purchased for yourself. Meaning Freedom, creativity, spontaneity-Creativity, hope, innocence.

November= Topaz and Citrine

Topaz is available in a rainbow of colours where as Citrine is known for it’s beautiful yellow/ orange hue. Said to bring the wearer health, prosperity and warmth.

December= Turquoise

One of the first ever gemstones to be mined. Known for the intense and desirable colour. Turquoise is said to bring happiness, wisdom, good fortune.
